Lee Roy Selmon's story combines football scholarships for his family and service in the local community. The first is his familial. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children in a Eufala farm. In football, he played with three of his brothers in Oklahoma. The three brothers were all All-Americans. The year 1973 was the first time Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the starters for one year. Lee Roy was named the top offensive lineman in nation by the Outland as well as Lombardi Awards. In three years, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy as the starter. They also won the national title twice. In his role as a National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon was awarded a scholarship for the third season in 1975. Selmon earned a degree from the University of California in Berkeley. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer times a week in the college. In Tampa the Buccaneers, he was a player for the Buccaneers nine seasons and became an all-pro. Additionally, he started an entrepreneurial career. By 1988 he had become an Account Relations Officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked with these groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute on Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 The Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized Lee Roy as being among 10 of the most notable young men. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and was a tall of 7-foot-2. While he was in college, he was the captain of the team of 1975. In 1993, Roy was a part of the university of south Fla's athletic department as the Director of Athletics as an associate. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989 the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave its Distinguished American Award, to Mr. Lucious Selmon and his wife. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor that made the award.
